The Danbury 911 center received multiple calls stating that a large amount of smoke was billowing from the Marcello's Deli and Catering near Lake Avenue and Hobson Street late in the evening on Monday, Jan. 14.

The 911 dispatch center then alerted fire units, which arrived quickly at the scene. Fire crews confirmed that the smoke was coming from the roof of the structure.

Fire crews worked to combat what they called a “stubborn” blaze, which was determined to have started in the attic space of Marcello’s.

The fire was eventually deemed under control after several hours in frigid temperatures. Bethel, Brookfield and Ridgefield Fire Departments, Danbury Police, Danbury Hospital EMS and Danbury Emergency Management also provided assistance.

There was nobody inside of the deli at the time of the fire, and no injuries have been reported.

The Danbury Fire Marshal’s Office is on scene investigating the cause, which has yet to be determined.
